My grandmother gave me a little gold box of bookplates for Christmas when I was 10 or so. I am a Leo and the plates reproduced a beautiful etching of a lion and some words in Latin that I did not know. There was a blank space for my name. I licked and pasted the plates in each book and wrote my name proudly. I still buy bookplates when I see them. I seems that I see them less often now.
Thank you Allison Meier for your article and for stirring memories of my first library
