Kristin Thiele’s imagery is derived from the motion pictures of the 1930s through the '50s. Her interest in this era of film is specific to its alignment with the concept of artifice via opulent and escapist themes. The paintings reference fleeting, missing, and unattainable subjects. When these images become paintings they become the very antithesis of the ephemeral. This contradictory concept is contained in the association of these early images and audio files through the platforms of modern technologies. Thiele’s careful scrutiny of each source image with equal focus and attention transforms her internalization of “old” material into the externalized action of painting, thus creating a “new” subject.
Thiele’s work has been included in exhibitions throughout the United States and in Switzerland. She lives and works in Miami, Fl.
