Spinning snippets of domestic life and nature, Susan Homer surrenders to her love of pattern and material. Her perennial subjects: trees, birds, flowers, and patterns have personal and emotional significance. The flowers are often from her Brooklyn garden, birch branches from weekend walks and patterns from beloved wallpapers and fabrics. Like fugitive guests, the birds are unplanned; they enter later and perch where there’s room. Homer’s work, like an old house, contains many levels of memories.
Susan Homer earned an MFA from School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago, IL, and a BFA from Rhode Island School of Design, Providence, RI. Her work is in the collection of Bowdoin College Museum of Art, Brunswick, ME, The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, L.L.C,. and University of New Mexico Art Museum, Albuquerque, NM. The artist lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.
