This pastel-hued casein painting is densely layered with teal, pink, lavender, yellow and light orange on a pale blue background. The thin layers of pigment are applied in a variety of strokes from broad areas of scumbled paint to small marks that appear to be drawn. The calming palette brings to mind the cool blues of a winter sky or reflections in a snowy field. Casein paint is a milk protein-based paint that has been used since ancient Egyptian times, it is valued for its luminosity and dries to a beautiful matte surface.
